- World Council of Muslim Women Foundation: (Canada)

URL no longer valid!
They seem to have moved or shut down. Jan 2003- Confirmed!!
Keeping it around a little longer for the historical record -
especially if we note the dates at which these sites tend to drop
out and relate it to sea changes going on in the affairs of Islamic
institutions and foundations in North America since... Jan 07)

http://www.islamonline.net/arabic/adam/2001/07/article1.shtml

This is an interesting site in the Arabic section of Islamonline
that informs and comments on women centered issues with originality
and perspective, and not a few surprises... If you want to catch the
mood of some new currents in engaged Muslim women circles, and
if you can read Arabic, then make sure you stop to listen to some
lively, informative and intelligent state of-the-realm views and
voices at the 'Eve & Adam' corner ( "hawa' wa adam...")

"Islam and Women" that reflect a shaping identity
and commitment of an emerging 'rainbow generation' of American

Canadian Council of Muslim Women (1982) : A national organization
with chapters across the country, with the objective of having
Canadian Muslim women develop their Muslim identity, make
significant contributions to Canadian society and provide positive
role models for Muslim youth.
Conference
held in 1997 w theme: "Democratic Leadership: Muslim Women as a
Positive Force for Change"
- Sponsors studies on Muslim women in Canada.
[Women
and Islam] "Islam's attitude
toward woman is a dream come true for anyone who is interested in equal
rights and feminism - really interested, not just because of a "cool feminist"
fad. Take an open-minded look at some of the articles on RIGHTS
and you'll see what I mean. Please do not confuse androcentric behaviour
of men with the real teachings of Islam. That's like blaming the car for
the irresponsibility of a driver." Here's an interesting
site packed with leads on the subject, but nothing to identify its
origins. It seems to be addressing a wider, grassroots order
of readers, not so much a scholarly site, but could be useful for
college students trying to find general resources on women and Islam
from mostly American Muslim experiences and perspectives. Here's a lively and
informative site that contains some valuable collections
reflecting on the mind and spirit of a new generation of Muslimas in
the American Muslim Community who take pride in their identity and
are eager to reach out to others with their message across the
spectrum of diversity that makes for the uniqueness of the American
setting. (Check out our
NEWS
& VIEWS Platform for excerpts from their above - women
and Islam collection!)
